About.

Makis Emmanouilidis doesn’t just make music — he builds bridges. A musician, poet, and songwriter fluent in both contemporary sounds and ancient traditions, his work moves between languages, cultures, and genres with the ease of someone who’s always believed music belongs to everyone.
His journey began on Boston’s music scene in 1997 as a founding member of Journey to Ithaca, performing at venues including MIT’s Kresge Auditorium, the Tsai Performance Center, and the Maliotis Cultural Center. A prolific songwriter, he contributed original compositions to the group’s albums before channeling his love of narrative into Secret Life (2015), a solo project inspired by Greek literary fiction.
Today, Makis leads two distinct but kindred projects. Critical Junction blends English and Greek lyrics across genres — ballads, blues, pop, rock — celebrating music’s borderless nature. Mia Anasa goes deeper into roots, reviving Rebetiko, the raw, soulful tradition known as the “Greek blues,” and introducing it to new audiences who don’t yet know they need it.
Two bands. One conviction: music is a shared language that outlasts everything else.
